Report of the Chief of Detectives
|
To the Honorable Board of Police Commissioners:
GENTLEMEN &mdash I have the honor of submitted my fourth annual report of the Detective Department for the fiscal year ending February 28th, 1895. I take pleasure in calling your attention to the efficiency of the detective officers in the discharge of their duties, as shown by their report. It is fair to infer that expert crooks and criminals of various grades have not considered it a profitable investment to take any risks in our city from the knowledge of the energy displayed by the officers of this department.
|
Respectfully submitted, CHAS. H. McCHESNEY Chief of Detectives.

|
158 | BOARD OF POLICE COMMISSIONERS |
Two (2) applicants were examined for membership of the force during the year and found to be physically qualified for appointment.
One (1) death occurred on the force during the year, in the person of Detective Leahy, who died on the seventh of August, of remittent fever. His health had been failing for several months prior to his death. He was respected by all who knew him.
The general health of the force throughout the year has been good, with the exception of the months of February and March, in which eighteen (18) members were ill of "La Grippe."
Three hundred and eighty-three visits were made to the sick and injured members of the force during the year and seventy-nine (79) day and night visits to the Central and Second Precinct Stations, on urgent call, to attend prisoners and others found ill on the street and brought in.
Two (2) cases of alleged rape on young girls, aged respectively eleven and thirteen years, were brought to Second Precinct Station and physically examined for evidence of that crime having been committed on them; also a girl aged fifteen years, was examined for the same, at Central Station.
